Interactive Pigment Glazes
Interactive Pigments are designed to be diluted 50:50 and are best applied to cone 04 bisque. Brush over the entire surface and allow to dry, then wipe back with a damp sponge to leave pigment in textures and crevices. You can apply them selectively for accent work or use an all-over glazing approach.
These pigments are highly versatile and can be fired across a wide range—from cone 06 up to cone 10—making them useful in both low-fire and high-fire workflows.
Application Tips
- Dilute pigments 50:50 with water
- Apply to cone 04 bisque
- Allow to dry fully before wiping back
- Control intensity by how much pigment is removed
- Best results come from experimentation with thickness and surface texture
Food Safety & Studio Use
As with all ceramic materials, do not eat, drink, or smoke while working with clays or glazes. Food safety varies depending on application, glaze choice, and pigment concentration. Visual indicators that a surface may not be food safe include:
- A strong metallic sheen
- A dull or dry-looking surface when the underlying glaze would normally be glossy
When these effects are present, we recommend using Interactive Pigments on exterior surfaces only, for decorative purposes.
