Will you charge me at drop off?

We do not charge you at drop off, your piece will be priced during the unload process of our firing. You will pay when you pick up your piece.

How long do you hold onto pieces for?

We will hold pieces for 30 days and will discard any pieces not picked up after 3 months. Please communicate with us if you need longer to pick up, but we can not store your pieces forever.

Can I have someone else pick up my pieces for me?

Yes! You can send anyone you’d like and let us know how the pieces will be paid so we can get that processed.

What day do you fire your kiln?

We fire on a daily basis and will fire a kiln once its filled up (no specific day)

If I drop my piece off Thursday, will I be able to pick it up Friday?

No! We do not have the ability to do overnight firing. All firing will be ready in 7-10 business days.

Can I put found objects/glass in clay pieces and have it fired at Georgie’s?

We do not fire glass/ found objects in clay pieces at Georige’s but you CAN do it in your own kiln

Can I put 100 beads on 1 bead bar and have it fired at Georgie’s?

No. bead bars can only hold so much weight and not sag in the heat of a firing. If a bead bar is over-stuffed with beads it will typically result in beads getting stuck to shelves and bead racks. In addition to successfully firing a bead bar: SECURELY wrap wire to hang beads, do not glaze the inside of beads and cookie cutter shapes (these are typically too big/heavy for bead wires and bead racks)

Can I underglaze the bottoms of pieces?

Yes, and you can use interactive pigments on the bottoms of pieces but test first because some can flux just enough to stick or create tiny chips on feet. Please note that we do charge a scraping fee if your pieces do stick to the shelf. work and now that they’re bisqued, I can’t tell them apart! What do I do?

HELP! I used low fire clay to make work and I used mid-range clay to make work and now that they’re bisqued, I can’t tell them apart! What do I do?

Yes, this is a problem and unfortunately there is no way to tell them apart. We recommend before firing in the future to make your makers slightly different or add an additional mark to distinguish different clay bodies at different temperatures. We will fire all unknown clay bodies to low fire ONLY.

Should I fire my lids on my pots?

Yes! Particularly if they are snug. This makes it more likely they will still fit after firing.

How should I bring my pieces to you to be fired?

Please bring work in a LIDDED box or container labeled clearly with your name and contact information. No loose work will be accepted or pieces not in a box. Whatever you bring your pieces in you will get back.

Can I have you fire work to a special temperature or with a custom firing schedule?

Yes – you MUST reserve an entire kiln for this and provide specific instructions. We will not fire a custom firing with overglazes or lustres.

Can I buy stilts to use with my mid-range glazed pieces?

Yes – however, you will have to purchase the stilts and then there is an additional stilt fee for all cone 6 firings at $0.50/stilt. We do not recommend this. Please note that firing results with stilts can vary widely and aren’t always a good idea. We recommend trying CH563 25×80 grog in a kiln safe container to ‘float’ a piece or make a waddling clay from 5/05/ EPK and alumina. Wadding clay is very refractory and will not stick to a kiln shelf if made correctly. In all cases, dry footing your work is the BEST option.

Can I bring work in for firing that I made today?

No, all pieces need to be bone dry (we are not a storage facility for your wet work to dry) and we will not load wet work.

I just found a clay piece I made in college in a box in the attic and want to finish it. Can Georgie’s fire that?

Yes, but if you do not know the clay body used, it can only be fired to low fire. bed. Can I fire that?

I went hiking yesterday and found a mud dauber nest or local clay in a creek bed. Can I fire that?

Yes, but this will fall in the unknown clay category and be low fired ONLY. fire that?

I used newspaper/wood to create an armature when building my piece. Can I fire that?

No, please remove all combustible material before bringing it in to be fired. that?

I made a really fragile sculpture with a lot of terrifying appendages. Can I fire that?

Yes, but consider buying a scrap of kiln shelf to bring it on so we don’t have to touch it. Please know that we do our best with fragile items but are not responsible if they break during firing or in transport to/from the kiln. before it was bisqued. Is that okay for you to fire?

I got too excited about the new glaze I bought and glazed my greenware piece before it was bisqued. Is that okay for you to fire?

In most cases, no. We do not once fire greenware to glaze temperature. Sometimes this will cause pin holing in a glaze. Please let us know when a piece has glaze OR wonderglaze on greenware as they can melt and stick pieces if they are stacked or touching; glaze and wonder glaze should be applied to bisque ware only.
